In 1908, S&W introduced the New Century, built on the N frame that was designed for the .44 S&W Special with their first model triple-lock guns. Prior to the Great War, they made a limited number of 2 nd Model hand ejectors chambered in .45 Colt. As WW1 heated up, models chambered in .455 Webley were made for the British under contract.A 15-8 would have a three-alpha, four numeric format serial number. Betting yours starts with either just a "K" or a single to a triple digit in front of a "K" followed by numbers. The wooden grips (stocks in S&W parlance) are not original to the gun either. Probably Altamont, but definitely not OE S&W.

As powder advances have come along, cartridges of that higher velocity continue to be marked +P... but the pressures of mopdern +P are only slightly above current standard velocity ammo. The First Model Schofield has a latch configuration that is rather pointed at the top and has a circle around the screwhead at the bottom. Serial-number range will give you an indication of whether it is First or Second Model; the numbers change from the First Model to the Second Model at a little over 3,000. Object Name revolver.
